Student ALA at URI is a student chapter of the American Library Association, which is the primary professional organization for librarians and libraries. Our organization is here to support the professional development and growth of its members, the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, and the profession as a whole.
Since 2009, we have hosted networking and professional development opportunities, provide social opportunities for students who may otherwise never meet face to face, and coordinated trips to ALA Midwinter. In 2013 we were the recipients of the 2013 Chapter of the Year Award from the American Library Association.

The Student Chapter of ALA at URI shall promote the social, cultural, intellectual, and professional growth of its members and support the Graduate School of Library and Information Science. It will also facilitate and encourage participation in local, regional, and national chapters of the American Library Association. It will encourage professional contacts within the field of librarianship both at URI and elsewhere, and will actively promote involvement in professional activities beyond the classroom. It will also promote information freedom and equity of access among people of all ages and backgrounds through a variety of programs and activities across New England.
