President: Alicia Vaandering

Alicia Vaandering is in her second year of the dual master’s degree in Library and Information Science and History at URI.  She is interested in ancient history and languages, academic librarianship, and information literacy; and she hopes to work in an academic library after completing her program.  Alicia currently works as a teaching assistant for the History Department, as a student reference librarian at Carothers, and as a collections assistant for the Pettaquamscutt Historical Society.  She is excited to work with SALA to help build a vibrant and engaging community for URI’s GSLIS students.

Vice President: Jen Smith

Jen Smith plans to graduate from URI’s GSLIS Master of Library and Information Studies program in the Spring of 2016.  She currently lives in Connecticut with her puppy and works at her local public library.  Jen hopes to fulfill her passion to work with the youth by becoming a children’s or young adult librarian after graduation.

Secretary: Chelsea Watts

Chelsea Watts is in her second year of the dual master’s degree in Library and Information Studies and History. Her interests include medieval history, academic librarianship, digital humanities, and cultural heritage. Chelsea works as a student reference assistant at Carothers Library and hopes to work in an academic library or museum after graduating. In her free time, Chelsea enjoys reading, drawing and traveling as much as possible. She is excited to be a part of SALA and to help bring exciting events to the GSLIS community.

Treasurer: Meagan Jarvis

Meagan is originally from Paxton, Massachusetts. She has spent the last ten years in beautiful Rhode Island. Meagan is in her second year at the Harrington School in the Library and Information Studies program. She is an assistant librarian at the Pell Marine Science Library at the URI Bay Campus! Upon completion of the GLIS program she hopes to work as a young adult librarian in a public library. When she is not glued to her studies, Meagan is a part-time bartender and full-time mom to a beautiful and busy three year old! Her all-time favorite book is The Cider House Rules, favorite musical artist is Elton John and favorite past time is reading and writing by the ocean.

Past President: Catherine Damiani

IMG_4570Catherine Damiani is currently finishing her second year in URI’s GSLIS Master of Library and Information Studies program and plans to graduate in the Spring of 2015. She currently works at the Barrington Public Library, Cranston Public Library, and URI’s Carothers Library. Her interests include public and academic libraries, information literacy instruction, digital pedagogy, reader’s advisory, and information behavior. She is honored to have served as Student ALA President from 2014-2015 and will continue to support Student ALA’s endeavours in the Past President role.
